Biomass Boilers

Grant Biomass boilers use a wood pellet to fire there boilers therefore they are extremely environmentally friendly, its a safe and convenient way of heating your home.

The great thing about these wood pellet boilers are they are fully automatic and perform more like an oil or gas boiler using advanced controls which regulate the amount of fuel being delivered to the burner to match the heat demand on the boiler. Wood pellet boilers obviously produce ash and normally require frequent cleaning and maintenance by the user however these systems operate with a self cleaning function which reduces the need of regular cleaning.

Grants patented stainless steel turbulator baffle system, the spira condensing wood pellet boiler delivers award winning efficiency and outputs. The wide range of models ensures that the correct renewable heating solution for your home.

This green method of heating your home is a great method and we are always happy to help with any questions you may have about the differences between fossil fuels and biomass fuel.

Unlike fossil fuels which are a depleting resource biomass fuel can be sourced from a closed carbon cycle system, where the amount of Carbon emitted during the burning of fuels is balanced by the planting of trees. This environmentally friendly way of harvesting the fuel to heat your home therefore cancels out the harmful effects of carbon being released into the atmosphere.

What are wood pellets?

Wood pellets are an environmentally- friendly fuel, produced from either recycled sawdust or virgin timber from managed resources. The raw material is compressed into small, dense cylinder pellets with very low moisture content which deliver high efficiency combustion when burnt. Theses pellets can be bought in bags of various sizes but obviously bulk buying is most cost effective. If you would like to know more about biomass heating systems please ask our specialist energy saving engineers for more information.

Solar Thermal Panels

Solar Thermal is a fantastic alternative to traditional energy sources.

There is an inexhaustible supply of sunshine (honestly even in the UK) and has zero carbon emissions solar technology is good for the environment and a brilliant way for the homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint. Adding solar heating technology to a property also increases its value because homes with solar heating are less prone to the fluctuation in heating prices making them a very attractive option for the potential buyer.

Typically a solar thermal hot water system can save you up to 70% on your annual hot water heating costs so its a great way to save and help the planet all at the same time. As with all Grant products the technology is simple but highly effective which means it provides you with an environmentally responsible and cost effective alternative to traditional energy sources.

It’s a clean and sustainable method of providing hot water to your home using sustainable energy.

The solar collector panel is mounted on the roof its connected to a coil containing a special glycol/ water solution. This heated fluid is circulated from the panel to a cylinder where the heat is transferred to produce hot water. (Clever eh!)

The solar thermal panels can be installed on a sloping roof using an on-roof or in-roof mounting system or on a flat roof if required it has self-cleaning glass so maintenance is kept to a minimum.

If you require any more information or advice on solar thermal heat panels please feel free to contact us.

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHE)

Grant air source heat pumps use an air to water system which utilises heat energy captured from the air in wet heating system radiators or underfloor heating. The process uses the same vapour/ compression cycle that extracts heat in a domestic fridge. The liquid boils off to a gas and absorbs the latent heat energy in the air, this is then compressed increasing the heat content in the refrigerant before passing through a heat exchanger where it condenses back to a liquid state while transferring the heat to the water of the heating system. The liquid refrigerant is then re-circulated through the evaporator and the cycle begins again.

In the UK home heating accounts for nearly 30% of CO2 emissions but the heat source used in a ASHE pump is entirely renewable this then reduces the amount of harmful greenhouse gasses being released into the atmosphere this in turn lowers your households carbon footprint. There are very strict guidelines to be followed to make sure your heat pump is sized correctly to ensure that the correct heat output. Typically when the outside temperature is at -3, to do this we must first accurately determine the heat loss form the property and then using this information, correctly select the required size of air source heat pump based on the design outside air temperature.

A full room by room heat loss calculation of the property must be made to determine the heat loss from the entire property to ensure effective workings of the fitted air source heat pumps. These calculations are often overlooked so air source heat pumps have had some bad publicity in the past when actually they are a brilliant energy saving method of heating. We are specialists in these pumps and so take the calculations very seriously to ensure its the absolute best and effective heating method for you.

As in all heating methods, an annual service should be carried out. This is important and must be carried out by a qualified engineer to ensure the evaporator matrix is clear of debris as any build up could significantly affect the performance of the heat pump.

Having an air source heat pump provides householders with a cost effective option to traditional off-gas heating method. If you would like any more information please feel free to contact us for more details.
